ABB inaugurates new transformer factory in Germany

2010-03-17 - New dry type transformer manufacturing site opens in Brilon

ABB has opened last Thursday, March 11, 2010, a new facility for manufacturing dry type transformers in Brilon in the presence of employees, customers, local and overseas guests.

ABB has been present in Brilon for more than 90 years. The new plant is 5 km away from the previous location and comprises 11.000 square meters of manufacturing and 1,800 square meters of office facilities.

“ABB continues to see a growing demand for our dry type transformers around the globe,” said Tarak Mehta, head of ABB’s global Transformers business, part of the company’s Power Products division.. “This world class factory is underlining ABB’s global footprint concept and reinforcing our striving for saving energy in our own facilities.”

The new factory sets new standards with regards to energy efficiency, productivity and working environment. “Compared to our old site, we could reduce our energy consumption by 40%. This not only will save us money, but also help us protect the environment,” added Tarak Mehta. The new facility features environmentally friendly and energy efficient products such as Busch Jaeger switches and EcoDry transformers.

„RESIBLOC transformers have always been word beating products. Now we have a factory which is world class as well,” proudly said Axel Kalt, local transformer business unit manager Germany. „I express my thanks to those who have contributed to this move. It is truly impressive that we could complete this project only after 10 months of construction time,” added Kalt.

The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art winding and automated core cutting machines to further reduce production time. The premises will be the new ABB home of 150 employees.

Brilon is manufacturing dry type transformers and is a focused factory for RESIBLOC transformers. Its latest development is the new EcoDry line, ultra-efficient dry-type transformers with amorphous metal cores. ABB has so far produced worldwide 60,000 RESIBLOC units.
