2009-01-20 - The first day of the World Future Energy Summit 2009 started off strong with thousands of visitors passing through the exhibition and attending the conference.

The event was officially inaugurated by His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the UAE. The prince also visited hall 9 where ABB stand was located.
ABB’s offering and leading position in providing energy efficient technologies attracted scores of visitors, potential customers and media to learn more about ABB’s activities in the sector.
A strong start for ABB
Other highlights of day one of the summit included ABB’s HVDC light technology being featured in the Green Energy Showcase. Gunnar Asplund, from ABB's Power Systems’s, Research and Development team connected with industry professionals where he revealed how ABB's pioneering HVDC technology can enable the development of renewable technology.
Additionally, ABB’s stand attracted many media outlets who were attracted to ABB’s eye catching, high-tech stand to learn more about ABB’s technology for the renewable energy sector.
The stand team registered over 250 new business contacts at the stand and even more are expected to attend on day two.
ABB takes the spotlight
A number of top news TV channels, such as NDTV Arabia and CNBC Arabia, interviewed key ABB representatives about the firm’s green building projects and its views on regional sustainability projects.
Frank Duggan, ABB’s MEA region manager, was featured in a webcast interview by Turret Middle East – the organizers of the summit – in which he spoke about the firm’s state-of-the art solar tracker and ABB’s wide range of energy-efficient technologies. The webcast is set to appear on www.worldfutureenergysummit.com this week.
Duggan was also interviewed by regional power magazine, MEP Middle East where he spoke about ABB’s HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) and carbon management technology, the firm’s key objectives for 2009 and forecasts for the regional power and construction industry.
A team from renowned environment magazine, National Geographic, also visited ABB’s stand and were interested to learn more about the Fourier Transform Spectrometer, which collects and transmits global CO2 and methane densities (up to 30 times daily) from an impressive 650 km above the earth.
A winning team
Top ABB experts from Sweden, U.A.E and France were present at the summit to share their expertise on a wide array of topics, including carbon capture, HVDC Light, ABB's i-bus KNX intelligent installation system, as well as solar and wind power. The experts spoke to hundreds of visitors, including customers, students, contractors and developers.
