2010-01-19 - On the second day of the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi, UAE, ABB experts were busy sharing knowledge with customers on energy-efficient technologies such as green building, drive systems and much more.
Scores of customers, industry professionals and students attended many of ABB’s stand presentations throughout the day to learn about green building technologies such as ABB’s i-bus KNX technology – an intelligent installation system that meets the highest requirements for applications in modern home and building control.
Aki Maenpaa, ABB Summit visitors flocked to ABB’s eye-opening presentation on energy efficient drives. The presentation was led by ABB's Aki Maenpaa, business unit manager for Drives and Motors in the Gulf. During the presentation, Maenpaa revealed exactly how ABB drives can reduce CO
2 emissions and energy costs, and also highlighted the fact that ABB’s installed base of low-voltage drives saves an equivalent of 140 million tons of CO
2 each year.
Maenpaa commented, “Electric motors are everywhere, and the machines they run account for more than a quarter of the world’s electricity consumption.

Installing variable-speed drives can reduce their power consumption dramatically, typically by around 30 percent, leading to significant cost savings and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.”
The drives presentation was followed by a presentation on ABB’s range of industrial robots and how these can increase industrial productivity whilst increasing safety. ABB’s IRB 140 – a small but power industrial robot was on display during the show and sparked a lot of interest with manufacturing and packaging firms.

ABB's technologies on show were appreciated by His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the UAE (on the left), who personally visited ABB’s stand to speak to ABB representatives.
